What does it mean to take Christ's name upon us?

When we are baptized we make a covenant.  When we take the sacrament, we renew that covenant.  But how do we fulfill that covenant?

Mosiah 18:9 talks about standing as witnesses of God at all times and in all things.  What things do we do everyday to stand as a witness of God?

In our class we had some examples as well.  These are some of our responses:

• Raising children
• Doing my little sister's hair
• Being an example to friends
• Kindly asking friends to be reverent in sacred places
• Comforting my mother who was remembering her grandfather who had recently passed away
• Babysitting and playing with little siblings
• Helping a friend sweep the garage

Sis G told us a story about serving elderly people on her mission in Brazil.  She combed their hair full of lice.  She washed their feet infected with germs and disease.  It was a difficult experience until she remembered that the Savior of all mankind had washed the feet of his disciples.  After she had that thought, the task was no longer difficult, but instead she took it on as a challenge that she could accomplish with dedication every week she was in that area.

He said it is essential that we are able to face with courage whatever challenges come our way, strengthened by the knowledge that we are never alone when we stand with our Father in Heaven.

Representing our Savior Jesus Christ is the greatest honor we could have on this earth.

Activity - Wedding Dresses

Our professional seamstress leader invited us to her home to teach us about beautiful, modest styles of wedding dresses.  After that we got to design our own fabulous dresses with paper, lace, and glitter.  Each dress was different, but each was beautiful!

Why are covenants important in my life?

We make covenants when we receive ordinances such as baptism, ordination to the priesthood, and temple ordinances. A covenant is a sacred agreement between God and His children. God sets specific conditions, and He promises to bless us as we obey these conditions. Making and keeping covenants qualifies us to receive the blessings God has promised. When we choose not to keep covenants, we cannot receive the blessings. Our covenants guide the choices we make and help us resist temptation.

Watching this video make a list of examples you see of covenants being made and kept.


The people of Alma "clapped their hands for joy" when they learned they could be baptized because this was the desire of their hearts. (Mosiah 18:11).

When we are baptized we make a covenant to:
Always remember Him,
Keep His commandments,
Take His name upon us,
Stand as witnesses of Him,
Bear others burdens, comfort others, and mourn with those that mourn.

He promises us eternal life, and to always have His Spirit with us to comfort and guide us.

Keeping covenants protects us, prepares us, and empowers us. In Rosemary Wixom's talk she shared the scripture 2 Nephi 31:19-20:

 19 And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save.

 20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.
